Introduce:The exhibition presents 97 pieces of Yu, Youhan’s works covering three stages of his art career since he tried making abstract paintings in 1980s. The important series of “Round” integrates meditation and combination of Eastern philosophical spirit and Western abstract art. Comparing his works belonging to different stages, we can notice the subtle gradation and intricate expression of the artist’s personal emotion. From the works of the earlier stage, we can identify the exploration of expression in abstractionism that the artist had made before the “Round” series came to him.

Introduce:You Si`s emphasis on depicting a tranquil inner reality-but one that never loses its sense of tension with an outer reality-might be his only connection to classical Chinese aesthetics.Otherwise they seem to completely abandon China-specific reference points.These abstract forms alternately resemble bustling mitochondria,dense jungles and inter-dimensional wormholes. They often capture the symphonic trance of organisms moving together,and against each other,suggesting cycles of birth and destruction.

Introduce:Returning to a simple life, and to the simplest state of creation, wIth a pen and a piece of paper, in black and white, it was only left with tactile sensation of human being. Simulating the growth of trees, also the accumulation and the transformation of every being in front of time, it is brought back to the essence of life. A geometric world that symbolizes both a city and the modern civilization, and a landscape that symbolizes the nature, each with own mode of thinking, they are showing their distinctive characteristics in the axis of time. By being perceived, they intend to restore the ability of sensing the world which has been lost in the social division of labor; and also to maintain a balance in between of natural and social characters.

Introduce:In the works of Wujun, the letter “N” has stripped off all individuality and emotion and is, therefore, free from any wish to get involved in reality; it is purely annotated with abstract ideas of its unlimited character. The purpose for this is by no means to explain its true nature but rather to transform substance and feeling into a situation of no further meaning; this situation is pure, it oscillates between the being and the non-being.

Introduce:The series of oil paintings “Angel in Water” made by Zhang, Chenchu presents two dimensions which should not come together. The horizontal one is the water level. The line of sight limits the view so that the audience can only see a narrow plane, and the narrow plane only shows when people view under the water. As to the other dimension, because of transparency of water, this cross section should not exist in sight. Therefore the angel is in a flying position, without any limits. These two dimensions are combined to make the mysterious feeling of space. Because of irradiation of light, the ripples shine marvelously, just like floating clouds or gorgeous silks. Such unusual angle of view creates an exceptional effect. The artist properly arranges the lights, setting the irradiation space for the angel smartly. All these would not exist without light.

Introduce:The one who does something diligently must get rewarded sooner or later. Ink art gradually forms a big difference between contemporary and traditional in the course of passing down and developing from generation to generation. Chinese brush, ink color and paper still remain in contemporary ink art, but the techniques and concepts of western modern art have been absorbed numerously. Contemporary ink art would rather pursue forms than pursue connotations as the traditional one, so there is a long distance between them, even diametrically opposite. Peng Zhenzhong is one of the artists researching and exploring the way of contemporary ink art. From his works, we can learn his single-minded pursuit of ink art.
